We all know Cable Companies are bad news. They make it so damn difficult to get the specific channels you want and always up-sell you into packages you don’t need. On the surface, it seems like a good idea. Digital Cable is a great technology but they’ve packaged it all wrong. They aren’t concerned about the amount of entertainment or fulfillment you gain from purchasing their product… They only care about how much money you spend every month on your inflated cable bill.
I worked for a cable company 15 years ago. I videoed High School sports, community events, telethons and fundraisers for a local TV station. They were also the local cable company for the small community. I loved my job.
Then the big cable company came in and ruined it. (The company itself got some bad press about 10 years ago). It was amazing that they brought in digital cable, and even more exciting that they were bringing high speed internet to the area. At the time, we were all on our 56k modems and sharing the phone line with our moms.
Eventually, I moved on to a sales position at a mall kiosk. I basically got paid to watch digital cable and play Online Multiplayer First Person Shooters like Counter Strike and Tribes all day. Sometimes my friends would drop by and play along with me. Back then, cable was only about $50 or $60 for maybe 120 channels. It may have been 300. I wasn’t that good of a salesperson. haha.
I used to love working at the Cable Company.
I always felt bad for people… watching their excitement while learning about all the new channels they were going to be able to get, knowing that the cable company really only cared about getting their money, not making them happy.
So, I KNOW there’s got to be some stories about how the cable companies have screwed you, or someone you know. Let’s hear it.
